What you wear. What you say. What you think/ignore/buy/don't buy... Welcome to One City-Population: Everyone-where EVERYTHING you do matters. You've lived here your whole life, whether you know it or not.
Ethan Nichtern, the charismatic and creative force behind New York's upstart Interdependence Project is your guide to the beauty that is everywhere in the urban jungle-in the rattling of subway trains, the screechings of traffic, the hum and drone of millions scurrying for work, food, sustenance, art, culture, and meaning. There may be no greater setting for exploring the great truth that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. expounded: "Whatever effects one directly, effects all indirectly."
One City melds Dr. King's message with modern Buddhist wisdom to offer a new way of understanding what binds us all together-no matter where we are, no matter who. With its pop-culture savvy, humor, and literary liveliness, One City will speak to--and even, it's fair to say, help define--the spiritually-inclined, conscious Next Generation.

Fast-paced, succinct and intelligent
By princesstonton
A great, well-written and accessible book. As someone who appreciates good writing, I have to say that the segues are particularly well done. This accounts for the incredibly fluid and logical flow as the book transitions from one topic to the next.
The topics themselves can be abstract and hard to grasp, but Ethan's exploration and explanation of them make it almost effortless to understand. He uses many concrete, modern day issues and examples to illustrate age-old concepts that could easily have been written out in a vague, fortune-cookie style way. It is very easy to relate to the ideas presented in his book.
It's a fast read and I highly recommend it!

A Really Great READ - A TRULY TIMELY TOPIC

I read this book from start to finish in two sittings yesterday. It was amazingly well written and flowed much more easily than other spiritual books I've read.
It's also incredibly hopeful, and incredibly relevant.
I've heard Ethan Nichtern do poetry readings as well. I hope he has a lot more writing in him, because I can't wait to read it. This is a great one to get for friends who are interested in ANY of the following:

Fresh ideas rooted firmly in the old.
By Adalae
Fresh and original commentary on modern Buddhism and interdependence. Not the same old same old. And yet, no newage b.s. No radical straying from core dharma. Just applying the message to things that are new to our world. Best new Dharma I've read in 10 years.
