More assertion examples and comments that were derived from users' experiences and difficulties in using assertions; many of these issues were reported in newsgroups, such as the verificationAcademy.com and the verificationGuild.com. 3. Links to new papers on the use of assertions, such as in a UVM environment. 4. Expected updates on assertions in the upcoming IEEE 1800-2018 Standard for SystemVerilog Unified Hardware Design, Specification, and Verification Language. The SVA goals for this 1800-2018 were to maintain stability and not introduce substantial new features. However, a few minor enhancements were identified and are expected to be approved. The 3rd Edition of this book was based on the IEEE 1800-2012.

About the Author
This SVA 4th Edition evolved from many years of practical experiences, training, and studies in the processes / design / verification / and language worlds. This book is an excellent reference in the process and application of SVA. It was created by four authors who came from very strong technical backgrounds, thus putting a lot of synergy in the creation of this book. Ben has many years of design, synthesis, and verification of digital designs; he authored 12 books on VHDL, Verilog, design processes, VMM, PSL, and SVA, and has taught several classes in these fields. Srini worked at Intel as a verification engineer, and at Synopsys as an application and verification field engineer; he is now CTO of CVC Pvt Ltd, a high-end design-verification consulting company, and provides training in SV, SVA, VMM, OVM/UVM, VHDL, consulting for companies, and sales representation for many EDA products. Ajeetha has many years of experience in design and verification using VHDL, SV, SVA, VMM, OVM/UVM; she is the founder, CEO and Managing Director of CVC. She has also been consultant for many EDA companies and verification turnkey projects across India, Israel & Taiwan. Lisa worked at Cadence as a methodology and product engineer supporting assertions in simulation, formal verification, and emulation. She participated in the SVA standardization work for the IEEE 1800-2009 release. She also managed an organization that was responsible for the definition, verification, and support of Telecom IC's, LAN IC's, and ATM IC's at Lucent Microelectronics. She now is a technical marketing manager at Real Intent.

Great book for engineers new to SVA or as a reference.

This book has been a great tutorial and reference for getting into the incredibly complex world of SVAs from the simplest to extremely complicated cases. I used the first and 3rd editions at work and purchased the new, 4th edition. The authors, Ben and Srinivasan, have even been responsive when I had questions about some particular SVA behavior in simulation.

Moose to Moccasins

This book is a delightful autobiography of an Ojbway woman who shares her life's journey in very readable and organized style from her childhood on Bear Island, through the changes that white encroachment made in her peoples lifestyle, through involvement in the tourist idustry including the making of a movie "The Silent Enemy," through her marriage and raising of children and grandchildren and her ordeals with tuberculosis. In the final anaylsis, Ka Kita Wa Pa No Kew (her Objway name) gives equal credit and blame where it is due to all the people with whom she interacted in her life. A great, easy read for Indian History fans or scholars and anyone interested in the triumphs of the human spirit-- especially ones that survive to Senior Citizen status with a happy heart.

The star of my keeper shelf!

Caution: this is no summer beach read.

It's a beautiful romance about some of the beautiful people, but with uncommon depth and complexity.

Phoenix Falling is harrowing and deeply affecting tale of emotional annihilation and painful recovery, and, unlike in most romance novels, love is neither panacea nor placebo. It is, rather, a sword of redemption requiring both courage and strength of character to wield it.

This is hands down my favorite Mary Jo Putney novel, with her signature depth of characterization and compassionate insight, and her wise understanding of love's power to facilitate the healing of even the deepest wounds.

One complaint: I don't particularly like the cover for this member of the series. It doesn't really do the characters justice. To me, he in particularly looks completely incapable of the strength of character which Putney allows all her characters to discover in themselves.

So, don't be fooled by the party animal cover models. There's real, classic Putney inside.

One of my top 5 books ever

I read this story originally as The Spiral Path (and personally like that title better) years ago. And I probably reread it ever year or so since. It's that good. It's not an easy, or cheerful, happy, lighthearted read, but it's always amazing to me how much I get lost in the emotions of this book. It's not a comfortable read either. Many detail are hard to read. That's what makes this book so amazing to me, that even knowing the story and how much it makes me cry in many different places, and how unsettling it is to imagine someone actually living the life Kenzie did, I still reread this book over and over. It is a romance novel, and in the end the love between the Rainie and Kenzie is beautiful, and after all they went through, totally believabl, at least to me. And now that this review is done, that reminds me it's been awhile since I picked up this book, maybe I need the kindle version as well....

Well worth losing sleep over

I stayed up until after 2:30 AM - and it was worth losing sleep over. The characters were so great, the plot so compelling and the writing so good that I could not stop reading until the end. I loved the way Kenzie's secret wasn't revealed until near the end. And Ms. Putney didn't give the characters an easy out. They had to work for their happy ending. I have so many books on my Kindle to read, that I don't often read a book more than once. But I already want to read Phoenix Falling again, this time to savor the all the wonderful details. Excellent, excellent book.

The mayhem and carnage date back to the turn of the 20th century, many years before there were ever any other unfortunate victims-Jew or Gentile-of the Holocaust.

Carr conducted three incredibly revealing interviews with: (1) a Black female Holocaust victim; (2) the Black commanding officer who liberated 8,000 Black men from a concentration camp; and (3) an African American medic from the all-Black medical unit that was responsible for retrieving thousands of dead bodies from Dachau. (White medical units were spared the gruesome task.)

"Kay," the Black female Holocaust survivor, laments: "You cannot possibly comprehend the anger I have in me because of being experimented on in Dachau, and being called ‘nigger girl' and ‘blacky' while growing up."

Testimonials from the Black commanding officer and African American medic are memorialized, for the first time ever, in Carr's book. The research is based on voluminous documentation, and more.

Very interesting and Informative

This book is very informative of the black experience in Germany under brutal racism, and the horrors Africans faced by Germans in Africa. This is a well written book full of history, documentation, and photos that keeps you reading and reading with great interest. I recommend this book as one of the many black history books to be collected for the black family library.PEACE.

There must be a better account than this "Junior College" tract

Although Germany's rude incursion into Africa is known on the surface, the treatment given to the subject is far from professional---it reads in so many places like a paper written by a very bright high-school student.
The author's gratuitous use of melodrama(often at the wrong time and in the wrong place), distracts from the story of the afflictions of the victims.
And quoting from Wikipedia is a dead giveaway of a canned piece of work.

T. J. Chung is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Alabama, Huntsville. His research interests include numerical simulation of quantum gravity, plasma dynamics in fusion reactors, hypersonic turbulent flows, computational fluid dynamics, continuum mechanics, numerical modeling of combustion and propulsion, fluid dynamics, and heat and mass transfer. He has also authored seven other books, including General Continuum Mechanics and Applied Continuum Mechanics, both published by Cambridge University Press.

Great Breadth, but...

This book covers just about every aspect Computational Fluid Dynamics. The fact that a single author could master such a range of topics and articulate them clearly is truly remarkable. Yet, I can't recommend this book. I bought it with high hopes in 2004, eager to broaden my knowledge beyond the finite volume method and SIMPLE algorithm. Well, it's been over three years and the book has mostly sat on the shelf. Every time I pull it down to learn some tidbit, I come away empty handed. The writing is high level and abstract, and it's difficult to extract useful nuggets from it. The first line of the preface says, "This book is intended for the beginner as well as for the practitioner in CFD." As a long time practitioner, I can't see it as useful for either. A typical section consists of a brief intro, then a bunch of equations, followed by some results extracted from a journal paper. Then it's on to the next section. Consider Chapter 3 on the Finite Difference Method. The first 5 pages are an onslaught of 45 equations and almost no descriptive text. How does one get a sense of the method from this? I would strongly recommend reading a section or two before buying this book.

A comprehensive book that fails to deliver the essential details.

The first time I saw this book I thought it would be one of the best CFD books , but after reading it I was disappointing.
There are so many equations in this book, but the author fails to explain the details and concepts.
The book could have been much better. The chapters are very comprehensive ( covers FDM , FEM and some FVM ) , which is one of the few advantages of the book.

GREAT INTRODUCTION TO NUMERICAL PDEs IN CFD

I like this book a great deal, but do note that I'm reviewing it as a treatment of numerical approaches to partial differential equations in computational fluid dynamics and not as a text for CFD as a whole.

My background is applied mathematics via finance and economics. I'm interested in solving parabolic and elliptic PDEs by finite differences, and eventually by finite elements and spectral techniques, as a means of pricing various financial derivatives.

Chung's book is a remarkably thorough treatment of the available techniques in these areas with substantial pointers to the primary literature. Explanations tend to be rather terse but nonetheless complete. More explanation, and possibly a few more examples, might be helpful, but that's a question of authorial style. Indeed, at some points I'm happy for a spare treatment that highlights the logical structure of the problem at hand in a subject laden with multiple layers of literature and detail.

To calibrate, I find Chung's book more accessible than Roache (CFD), Richtmyer and Morton, Thomas, and Elman et al; about the same level as LeVeque (Finite Difference Methods) and Ames (Numerical Methods); and harder than Smith, Morton and Mayers, Trefethen (Spectral Methods), Pozrikidis (Finite and Spectral Element Methods), and the treatment of PDEs in Press et al. It's also easier to use than more specialized works like Strikwerda, Karniadakis and Sherwin, and any of Hackbusch's books. (Full citations are in Listmania; see my Amazon profile.)

If you're willing to work with pencil in-hand, as with almost all science books, and to hit the stacks occasionally for back-up material, Chung's book is a great entry point to numerical PDEs.
