Well thought out learning process

This is a cool book. Each page presents one Yoga Asana with the Sanskrit name and the English translation. Then each stick figure is presented in four stages of completion down the left side with four blocks to the right of each stage for drawing practice. I procrastinated about the price but it was worth it. The ability to draw yoga pose stick figures has made my note taking during and after a Yoga class much more efficient.

This is a fantastic, deceptively simple book. I've over 20 years in the visual communication field... making deep experiences accessible is profoundly valuable. This book is easy-to-follow. It is useful. How many times do we DO something or EXPERIENCE something in our bodies that we cannot find words for? Not only is this little jewel useful for planning, recalling and organizing yoga practice. It is also useful in journalling and reflecting on learnings from movements. Start to use it for it's intended purpose, and you'll soon find you've developed a new visual vocabulary that will help you connect inner experience with understanding... Eugene McLaughlin is Professor of Criminology and co-director of the Centre for Crime and Justice Research. He is also a member of the Centre for Law Justice and Journalism. Eugene has held various academic appointments including at the University of Hong Kong, the Open University and the University of Southampton. He has also been Visiting Professor at the Department of Sociology, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, New York, the Department of Communication Studies, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies. John Muncie is Emeritus Professor of Criminology at the Open University, UK. He is the author of Youth and Crime (4th edition, Sage, 2014), and he has published widely on issues in comparative youth justice and children’s rights, including the co-edited companion volumes Youth Crime and Justice and Comparative Youth Justice (Sage, 2006). He has produced numerous Open University texts and readers, including Crime: Local and Global (Willan, 2010), Criminal Justice: Local and Global (Willan, 2010), The Problem of Crime (2nd edition, Sage, 2001), Crime Prevention and Community Safety (Sage, 2001) and Imprisonment: European Perspectives (Harvester, 1991). He has also contributed nine volumes to the The Sage Library of Criminology (Sage, 2007–2009). He is co-editor of the Sage journal Youth Justice: An International Journal.

Personality Disorders: The Next Level

I have already posted a review of the original version of "Emotional Vampires" that has helped at least one person in their purchasing decision. Now, with regard to the revised and expanded Second Edition, I also give it 5 stars and encourage anyone who finds themselves navigating the shark-infested waters of living with/working with/associating with a person afflicted with a personality disorder to order it right away and study it like a Talmudic scholar.

Which version should you buy? Buy the original version if you are just starting out in learning about personality disorders. The original version is written for the novice, and shows each personality type defined and described to perfection. Dr. Bernstein will give you tips at the end of each personality type for dealing with their tantrums, tirades, schemes, alternate states of reality, hypnosis, paranoid delusions, aloofness, passive-aggressive assaults, and eyebrow-raising verbal cues.

However, if you already have some experience diagnosing personality disorders and want a more in-depth look, then I encourage you to get the Second Edition. Here you will find a wealth of information on drama queens, bullies, control freaks, daredevils, used car salesmen (not the actual, but maybe also the actual), lovable rogues, gossip queens, the terminally depressed, narcissistic legends, tiger moms, puritans and perfectionists.

Whew! The list is long and tiring, but think about it, if you don't have this trusty book hidden underneath your mattress, how could you possibly navigate a world full of Emotional Vampires? And in the age of the Kardashians, Facebook, iphones, botox, Paris Hilton, and Narcissistic politicians in high office, there may be more of THEM than there are of US.

A Must Read - We all know these people.

This book was riveting in that we ALL have these people in our lives - so we ALL should read it. We might be working with them, living with them, children of them, spouses to them. Either we can't or won't believe that people can be this way and they are so alternatingly charming and pleasant and then cruel that they actually are training us like lab rats to exhibit the behavior they want from us ... and we stay around because we somehow want to save them from themselves. Women especially - READ it - and then make your daughters read it! Know about them before you are reading it to understand what just happened to you! I started out with highlighter but gave up because I was highlighting everything as though the book was just about me and my specific situation. Good stuff. I've shared it with friends who are caught in the world of an emotional vampire and they thanked me. Don't hesitate. You'll swear the author is writing about someone you know.

Do you have people in your life who seem to drain your energy? Do they need your attention all the time and expect you to put their needs before everything else in your life? Do they question you minutely about what you've been doing, who you've spoken to and where you want?

If you can answer yes to all those questions you may have one or more emotional vampires in your life. Like the fictional blood-sucking variety they may seem more attractive and more fun than anyone else you've ever known. But you need to be aware that this is just the surface and something much darker lurks underneath.

This fascinating, amusing and frightening book will help you to understand the vampire in your life and may help you to salvage a bit of your own life from the wreckage before you become just an accessory to the vampire. The author divides emotional vampires into categories - antisocial vampires, histrionic vampires, narcissistic vampires, obsessive-compulsive vampires, paranoid vampires. Some people may show tendencies from all these categories and all human being may exhibit some of the symptoms and behaviours at times.

The author demonstrates by means of everyday scenarios how vampires manipulate you into doing what they want you to. They put you in the wrong so that you feel obliged to help them and they twist what you say and use it against you. The only way to deal with them is to play them at their own game and stand your ground even if means ending your relationship with the vampire. Even if you don't think there is a vampire in your life at present this is still interesting reading if you are interested in psychology.

Get it for the map, not the "guide"!

I can't really understand the other reviews praising this map and guide. The map is a good one, yes. But the "guide" part is so highly opinionated that if you don't "groove" in the same track as the author, it's of no use. There is NOT a Thai phrase guide as indicated by another reviewer, only "Hello" and "Thanks"! There are also no monetary amounts (in any currency) attached to the pricing guide for restaurants (just a number of "$" with silly expressions like "You call this a bill" and "I got the last one"). What's expensive, or cheap, to one traveler might not be to another depending on the meaning of the symbols. Buy it for the map, but not for the guide!

This map is Groovy!

Great overview map of Bangkok. Shows the routes of the Skytrain and subways which should cover most of your traveling needs when supplemented with taxis and Tuk-tuks. During rush hour traffic you can walk faster than the taxis and Tuk-tuks in major areas. Great information on places to sleep, eat, drink and shop. Great advise for the first time visitor. Much better than the maps in all the other tour books. Also the map is laminated so it won't start tearing apart after folding it several times. The only negative is that the map is not updated every year. Some of the information is out of date.

Nice map, but still some room for improvement

the map is laminated (waterproof) and gives you the major tourist areas. I'd like to see these stick out more from the background because I needed to search for them. I like to find them without a tourist guide. Luckily I know Bangkok. If I didn't know Bangkok would be harder to find the tourist spots. It's a good map and maybe the best on Bangkok but still room for improvement. I looked it over for a few hours.

About the Author
Edward Weston (1886-1958) is one of the twentieth century's most prominent and pioneering photographers. In 1917 he became a member of the London Salon and in 1922 he met Alfred Stieglitz and Paul Strand.

In 1923 with his marriage failing he went to Mexico and opened a studio. It is at this time that he began keeping journals which he referred to as "daybooks." He wrote in his daybooks until 1943, and in 1961 they were edited by Nancy Newhall and published for the first time.

He was the first photographer to receive a Guggenheim Fellowship. Sadly, he was stricken with Parkinson's disease in the early 1940s and he relied on his sons, Brett and Cole, to continue printing for him. Cole, his youngest son became his assistant in 1946 and in 1952 the two men put together their father's 50th Anniversary Folio. After Edward's death in 1958 Cole fulfilled his father's wish and continued to print his negatives.

Nancy Newhall (1908-1974) dedicated thirty years of her life to photography, as a writer, scholar, critic, editor, and collaborator in publishing the work of several of the most influential photographers of this century.

Among her many accomplishments are the highly acclaimed exhibitions of Paul Strand and Edward Wilson, which she directed at the Museum of Modern Art. Author of the classic biography of Ansel Adams, The Eloquent Light, she also edited and collaborated with Paul Strand to produce the book Time in New England. Her other books include P.H. Emerson: The Fight for Photography as a Fine Art; Edward Wilson: The Flame of Recognition, (ed); and This Is the American Earth (with Ansel Adams).

Beaumont Newhall (1908-1993) was a distinguished historian and curator, and author of the definitive The History of Photography.

I can tell that this was a really interesting book. After reading it front to back more than once, I now have a new outlook on Edward and his work. I finally understand what he was trying to convey though his images thanks to this book. Edward Weston had a fascinating life especially with all who he encountered. This is a must read if you are an artist, photographer or not!

Awesome finish to a great start...for a teen reading book.

I really enjoyed the ending to this story; however, I wished it had gone a little more into the future..epilogue - one year later...then tell us. Unless you have read the first book, stop reading and go back and read it. There are way too many answers given to questions asked in the first book. A little more research on electric fences needed to be done, and I get it, it's fiction, but keep some semblance of real world. I really liked how the author closed the loop on everything in the story from the passage of right to the bad guys losing the war.

I hoped for more
By What's Beyond Forks?
This book takes off right where the last one ended. There is a lot of character change in this book. I can't just say character growth, although there was quite a bit of that too, but the characters themselves changed in many ways. I felt like there was a lot of the same in this book that we already had in the last book. It was still entertaining, but I was hoping for more.

The first book in the series was more interesting for me, with much less romance and more insightful thinking. I cared about the characters in the first book, they seemed more real than in this one. Still, great premise
