While living in Paris in the 1950s Alexander Trocchi was commissioned by Maurice Girodias, publisher of Olympia Press, to write "dirty books." Trocchi wrote Helen and Desire in one week in December 1953 and it was published under the pen name Frances Lengel. The book is the diary of Helen, daughter of a fishing boat captain in a rural village in Northwest Australia, who plans to use her natural enjoyment of sex to have adventures and travel the world. Determined to flout convention and chronicle her life, Helen writes of her loss of innocence on the eve of her 18th birthday, her use of men and their use of her, and her travels to Sydney, Singapore, India, France, and finally the deserts of North Africa. It is here that two officers of the French Foreign Legion who find Helen's journal make it public.

Great plastic snap-fit design guideline

This book is a very good reference for designing plastic snap-fit features. It discusses snap fit mechanisms, locators, locating schemes and overconstraints, design-for-assembly, and the snap-fit function from the end user point-of-view. It includes formula for calculating all of the important functions I wanted to predict in a design. It goes through a logical design sequence to create a snap-fit design that works in your particular application and identifies what you should and should NOT do. Some things were trivial for plastic design, others were not obvious and had not occurred to the design teams in which I have participated.
After reading this book I immediately recognized poor snap-fit designs on products I have worked with for years. A mechanical analysis of an optimized snap-fit based on this book showed how these concepts would have helped tremendously in the initial product design phase. I will certainly use this book in all my future snap-fit designs.

Potential readers should take advantage of this site's feature that lets you review this book's Table of Contents and Introduction. As is clearly explained in the "Introduction" and "Reader Expectations" Sections, this book is not just about equations for snap feature behavior. There are indeed many sources for feature behavior calculations; some are provided in the book. This book is useful if you want to understand a snap-fit attachment as a system in order to avoid many common errors. Many of these errors are trivial, but they are repeated again and again in all kinds of plastic products. My personal experience is that the root causes of most snap-fit attachment problems are neither prevented nor resolved by simply calculating feature behavior and a 'systems' approach is essential. To post this message, I must rate my own book; this is not an attempt to bias the ratings.

Too much self-evident things

First I must say that this book is not for snap-fit calculation, it is about snap-fir consepts. So it helps a lot in designing snap-fit as a whole (locators, guides etc). Not so helpful if you just have to design and calculate special snap-fit feature.

Good book for beginners but it repeats too much too simple things -> too much "fluffy" pages, less pages would be better better

I would give 3 stars. This obviusly is not 5 star book, altough I would recommend this book if you are going to design more than one snap fitting.

Chaos reigns!

Zavier is the calm and collected brother. He loves order and neatness...major OCD!! And he's about to go crazy sharing a space with Elle.
Elle is the complete opposite of Zavier. As an artist who draws/paints from the visions she sees, she loves the chaos and disorder of her area. Her brushes may be everywhere but she knows where they are if she needs them. But Zavier keeps hanging them up in size order. She may have to hurt him.

They keep circling around each around while slowly the mating urge rises between them. Neither is sure they need a mate but can they really fight the fates?? And then the goddess Nyx (Elle's mother) arrives and decides to awaken Elle's powers. Will Elle be able to get a handle on her powers? Will she and Zavier finally give into the mating urge? Will they be able to defeat their enemies and save the innocents? Read this book and find out for yourself. You won't be disappointed!

I've been waiting (im)patiently for the 3rd book in Lia Davis' Sons of War series, and in my opinion, Chaotic War was worth the wait! She does a great job with the characters and the storyline. And I love how Ms. Davis has the main characters of this book (Zavier and Elle) but still brings in the other characters from the previous books. This way you get to see what is going on with everyone as they continue to fight against Gary as he tries to carry out his evil plan.

A DRAGONS LOVE

She is messy unorganized and beautiful. He is cool calm collected and she is his. Elle has dream visions which are causing her horrendous headaches. When she has a vision of Zavier stabbed by his evil brother Garrick she knows she must act. Elle calls her mother Nyx, goddess of the night, to bring forth her powers.
Nyx leads Elle to the underworld to find and retrieve the dagger she saw in her vision. Now that she has the dagger will she be able to keep Zavier safe and stop Garricks plot to build an army of Demi-gods to stand against Zeus and the other Olympians?
Great series. This is a standalone story but it does bring in characters from previous books. If you want their back stories pick up books 1and 2. You won't be disappointed.

Another great book in this series, indulge in all of them

I was provided this book for an honest review.

I love all of the books so far in this series. The story between Zavier and Elle is tension filled with need to be together but denial all at the same time. Elle has some things going on that she can't control and therefore is afraid to be one with Zavier. He is patiently waiting for her to come around but it is tearing him up inside seeing her the way she is. There is more going on behind the scenes that I will let you in on because it would ruin the story and I so want you to read it and enjoy it as much as I did. Just know that the end is wonderful and everything comes to fruition but you are just going to have to read it for yourself and find out.

About the Author

Greg Ward Larson is a member of the technical staff at Silicon Graphics Inc. and most recently was a staff scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, where he developed Radiance.

Rob Shakespeare is Associate Professor of Theatre and Drama and director of the Theatre Computer Visualization Center at Indiana University, as well as a lighting designer specializing in dramatic lighting.

The best book available on architectural visualization

Many LD+A readers know Radiance as a lighting design and analysis program that was developed by Greg Ward (Larson) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Those who have investigated Radiance know that it is freely available, but usable only if you have a UNIX workstation and the patience to master more than 50 software tools. In ten years, it has attracted a coterie of fewer than 400 dedicated users.
Rendering with Radiance will undoubtedly change this. Originally conceived as a UNIX-style technical manual, the book is much more. It offers several tutorials, numerous application examples, and detailed discussions of the program's underlying mathematical algorithms. The accompanying CD-ROM includes example images, Radiance models and material libraries, reference manuals, and fully commented C source code for Radiance 3.1.
Despite first impressions, this book is not about computer graphics. The Radiance Lighting Simulation and Rendering System was created for advanced lighting designers and academic researchers, and more than half of the book is devoted to applying Radiance to real-world lighting problems. Ward Larson, Shakespeare and three contributing experts discuss luminaire modeling and lighting analysis, daylight simulation, animation, roadway lighting, theatre lighting, and exterior lighting. Even if you have committed yourself to using architectural visualization programs such as Lightscape and RadioRay, you will find an abundance of useful information in this book.
Radiance is the only software program that faithfully models the physical behavior of light, especially specular and semispecular reflections. It has a steep learning curve, but the quality of the architectural renderings it produces is unequalled by any commercial product. With Rendering with Radiance, we now have a user's manual that fully complements the capabilities of its namesake.
This truly is a remarkable book. Unlike most computer graphics texts, it presents lengthy discussions of IES photometric data files, luminance meters and spectrophotometers, the CIE overcast sky model, roadway light metrics, veiling luminance, spectral transmission data, and much more. The major algorithms used by Radiance are fully documented, including discussions of their limitations. There is more information in this book on lighting software use and design than can be found in all other books combined.
The major disadvantage of Radiance is that it was developed for UNIX workstations. In the past, this restricted the use of the program (really a set of UNIX tools) mostly to academic researchers. However, the freely-available and popular UNIX clone Linux now allows Radiance to be run with few difficulties on Windows and Macintosh computers.

Rendering with Radiance is for everyone

As a contributor to the text, I am a bit biased, but I do think you will find the book's numerous chapters very helpful for folks of a wide range of skill levels. It is a great resource guide, reference book and tutorial. It includes the Radiance executables for a few Unix platforms on the CD-ROM! These alone will save you an hour or two. The book is well worth the money, but don't take my word for it.

Revised Edition now available

Back by popular demand, Rendering with Radiance, Revised Edition is now available at a lower price. The authors have retained the publishing rights from Morgan Kaufman and are now self-publishing the book. It should be available through Amazon.com and others shortly. The new ISBN is 0-9745381-0-8. The revised edition corrects some typos, and eliminates the color plates and CD-ROM.
